Testing

Students will test throughout the school year as required by the State of Illinois. In addition, SJO provides optional testing opportunities in the fall with the PSAT/NMSQT (top 10%) for juniors, and the ACT and AP testing for those enrolled in an AP course. The SAT (juniors), PSAT 10 (sophomores) and PSAT 9 (freshman) take place in April during their regular school day. The Illinois Science Assessment for juniors takes place in April as well during their regular school day.

For those wanting to prepare for the SAT and ACT tests, please check your email or see the guidance office for free Jason Franklin Prep Course information. Whether you are taking the SAT or ACT, this is a fantastic resource! In addition, practice materials can be found by logging into your CollegeBoard account and/or Khan Academy. If you do not already have an account, please see guidance and they can help you get one set up.

If a student has signed up for a dual credit course, Parkland College will come to SJO in May to complete the testing for dual credit eligibility. Students will either be scheduled for a morning session or afternoon session and will complete all necessary testing during their regular school day. Once testing is complete, if a student does not meet the requirements to receive dual credit, the assessment test can be taken again by going to Parkland College’s Assessment Center. Once a student passes the necessary tests, they become eligible for dual credit.
